Creating opportunities for both young children and the adults in their lives.
Recognizing that stable, thriving families are the foundation of early childhood development, the South Carolina Early Childhood Advisory Council (ECAC) promotes a two-generation, or whole-family, approach. This approach fosters opportunities for both young children and the adults in their lives.
In practice, the two-generation approach ensures programs and policies are designed with the well-being, education, and economic security of the entire family in mind. This includes:
Building programs and policies that serve children and adults simultaneously, such as early education for children and workforce development for parents.
Aligning and coordinating services to increase access and more effectively meet the needs of families.
Tracking outcomes for both generations to measure meaningful progress.
